When you find a tool that offers something previously impossible and that fits with your teaching/learning philosophy, it's easy to get super excited a hyper-focused on the app. One such app is Hypothes.is. I found that it offers the possibility of exemplifying social-constructivist learning theory in terms of people sharing knowledge and perspectives that help create new knowledge. If you join the Marginal Syllabus project, you will see it at it's best. Working with web-based texts, readers can share their thoughts and additional in the digital margins, thus supporting everyone's understanding and broadening perspectives.

As far as Hypothes.is, I found it to be a little bit clunky. I definitely prefer the annotation/comment feature in Google docs. Thank you for an enriching course. I've learned an immense about about tech and myself!

I think Hypothes.is is a great resource. I like how it connects you with people in different areas. When I have used it, it usually ends in frustration but it has taught me what my students may feel when they use technology. Thank you for everything you have done for us this summer!

I can see how hypotheses could be useful and in a longer semester, I think everyone could get comfortable and it would encourage students to regularly check in. However, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn google documents. I have never had an opportunity to spend time with the Google drive and all it can do.

I liked the concept behind hypothes.is, but I need more one on one support to make it work for me. I had difficulty because I could not access it on the school wifi due to a firewall. I could not access it fully on my iphone, although I am not sure if that is due to technology or me struggling with it. When I was finally able to use it at home on a pc, it worked great on the one article, but I couldn't figure out how to do anything past that one article. I am pleasantly suprised at the amount of things we have covered that I have been able to figure out though. Looking forward to an exciting last week..ish..

It's it interesting when we get pretty excited about using an app with our students and then it just doesn't go quite like we had planned. I experienced this just this week during summer school. I had envisioned these wonderful books my first graders could work on and create in Story Creator an app I had previously put on our iPads and well things did not go well! I should have stuck to what I knew...Pages for iPad perhaps?! = ) Thanks for pushing me to try new things...your course has been wonderful!

I loved it when it worked. I know that you will get the kinks worked out though. It just takes time with things like that to smooth out. Teaching is like that. You get excited and then something goes not as planned. But I have found that it when lots of good learning happens too.

Like you, I see so much potential for Hypothes.is. I'm sure you will figure it out and when you do, it will be a fantastic addition to any class you teach! As a student, I'm curious about it and will probably attempt it again in the future in my spare time. Thanks for introducing me to it!
